Adults

At Midtown, we want to provide training that is appropriate for all ages. We believe that we never graduate from the Gospel, but continue to grow in our ability to apply the Gospel to every aspect of our lives. Therefore, we give ourselves to learning the Bible, understanding doctrine, developing a Christian worldview, and practicing spiritual formation and relational wisdom, so that we grow in our enjoyment of God and in our ability to love one another and our city.

  • The 10 Commandments: Moral Clarity in a Morally Confused World

In recent years, many have asked two things: Why have Americans becomes so anxious and sad? And why have they become so mean and mad? With respect to this latter question, the journalist David Brooks wrote in 2023 about “how America got mean.” He said, "In a culture devoid of moral education, generations are growing up in a morally inarticulate, self-referential world.” Many are growing up without clear moral foundations or clear moral formation. We no longer know how to treat one another with kindness or consideration.

Today, one of the most important things we can do as a church is to recover the beauty of Christian moral formation for the sake of the next generation and the world. To do so, we’ll ask and answer the question: What do the Ten Commandments have to do with us today? We’ll find that the Ten Commandments form us into the kind of people who: show up for one another, discover a great purpose for their lives, and gain the social and ethical skills that promote flourishing between individuals and across society. Join us as we learn the Ten Commandments and seek moral clarity in a morally confused world.

Adult Ed begins on Sunday, January 26 at 8:45am.

Bible Studies

  • Women's Bible Study

The purpose for writing the book of John is stated in the verses below:

“Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and that by believing you may have life in his name.” John 20: 30-31

Come study the later chapters in the book of John. In these chapters, we are focused on the glory of Jesus, which counterintuitively comes through, and is most seen at, the cross, his death. We are going to be shown what life is like as the people of God, saved by the Lamb of God, and continue to explore what it means to have, know, and actually experience, this “life … to the full”

Our time together will begin with fellowship, small group time to discuss the questions in the study book, and prayer. We will finish our time together with a large group teaching. Bible study starts February 16th and goes through April 6th.

    Time: 7 - 8:30 pm

    Location: Ministry House

We encourage you to read chapter 13 and complete the study questions related to this chapter from the study book below before our first meeting.

  • Men's Bible Study

Men, I’d like to invite you to investigate the book of Jonah in our Men’s Bible Study this winter. Now, let’s get one thing clear straight away: while many are familiar with Jonah, the story is about so much more than a rebellious prophet being swallowed by a whale! It is really a book about God and how one man finds himself on the run from the God he was so eager to serve in the earlier years of his life.

Jonah tells us the story of how a committed religious believer can yet find himself struggling with God and with how to relate to people who are culturally and religiously different from him. The story of Jonah brings up many important themes: toxic nationalism, ugly racism, misguided anger, spiritual questions, and how God relates to us when we run from him. The book of Jonah, then, is much more than a biography of Jonah. It’s a biography of the Christian God, who loves stubborn, reluctant, struggling men and will pursue them in his love in order to bring them to himself — and even calls them to participate in his mission to the world.

Bible study begins on Monday, February 17th at 7:30 pm.
